  History

In January 2007, DSC Consulting began rebuilding and rebranding.  Complete with a fresh look, new name and executive leadership team, ownership changed hands.  No longer a subsidiary of Toys R Us, DSC Consulting became a privately-held organization.

Armed with new direction and intense desire for success, we began leveraging our years in business to touch our hundreds of existing clients with new and improved services as well as to expand our footprint both regionally and nationally to build new relationships.  We’re doing so with focused applications and providing Technology Solutions and Creative Solutions as independent offerings or in combination with one another.   They include ERP, CRM and business intelligence applications and technology; data warehousing and data integration; website services portal practices agnostic to technology; strategic IT staffing services; and creative media, events and learning services.   We’re not vastly different from our humble beginnings but different enough that it’s fresh, exciting, and destined for greatness.  Greatness not only for us as a business but also to those who choose to engage and become our valued clients!

Looking back, it all began in 1996 when John Holohan, former CIO of Mercantile Stores Company, founded Definitive Solutions Company, Inc. DSC opened its doors with an initial engagement to enhance and support the custom Merchandise Retail System (MRS) that Mercantile Stores sold to Saks Fifth Avenue. With that, DSC grew quickly providing consulting services to clients throughout the Cincinnati area.

Saks Fifth Avenue became part of Saks, Inc., in 1998. In 2000 Saks, Inc. made the decision to convert the five operating department store divisions to the MRS system. DSC led and supported this rollout of the system to Proffitt's, Parisian, McRae's, Younkers, Herberger's, Carson Pirie Scott, Bergner's, and Boston Store. In 1999, Toys R Us, Inc. approached DSC to broker the purchase of the MRS system from Saks, Inc. Upon completion of the acquisition, Toys R Us further engaged DSC to assist in the conversion and implementation of the system into the overall Toys R Us, Inc. merchandising strategy.

Toys R Us, Inc. quickly recognized the value DSC provided and in March of 2001, DSC became a wholly owned subsidiary of Toys R Us. DSC's Business & Technology Solutions division was a partner in the customization of the MRS system for Toys R Us, Babies R Us, ToysRUs.com, and Toys R Us International. DSC's Visual Communication & Events Division provided services to Toys R Us, Inc. in support of numerous employee and vendor meetings as well as other video and multi-media projects.

After experiencing great success in these areas, whether it was standalone or as a Toys R Us subsidiary, our desire to reach beyond and take the organization one step farther created the opportunity for us to become our own entity once again.  The possibilities are endless, and our exploration of what can unfold has just begun!
